Before buying from a local jeweler while on vacation, it’s important to consider the various pros and cons to hand crafted jewelry. First, the biggest draw to many hand crafted pieces are that they are made by hand. But it’s important to determine what exactly that means. Like a necklace made from bottle caps might be strung together by hand, but it wasn’t exactly hand crafted.

 

Next, most hand crafted jewelry is usually relatively inexpensive. But it shouldn’t be too cheap because that’s a reflection of it being easy to make. So the best hand crafted jewelry should be affordable but worth the price, if not worth more outside of where it is purchased. Finally, most hand crafted jewelry is not terribly durable which is a major downside, meaning it should only be worn on special occasions.
